 Am I required to get a permit for a shed, pool, or a fence?

Yes.  A permit is required for a shed, pool and fence.  The permit cost is $20.00 and can be obtained at the General Services office.

Am I required to have a property survey to install a fence?

The City does not require property owners to have a survey done although; it is a good idea if your fence will sit on the property line.

Do I need a permit to pour a driveway?

No.  A permit is not required if you are replacing it with the same footprint of existing driveway.

Yes.  A permit is required if you are expanding or altering the driveway.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof?

No.  You do not need a permit to replace/repair a roof.

Do I need a permit to have a yard/garage sale?

Yes.  A permit is required to have a yard/garage sale.  No more that three (3) permits may be issued to one residence and/or household during a calendar year and not for more than two consecutive days.  There is no charge for this permit.

Can I put a sign on a utility pole to advertise my yard/garage sale?

No.  A sign is not permitted to be placed on any property other than the property of the residence to which the permit has been issued.

One sign of not more than twelve square feet (3’x4’) is permitted to be displayed on the property of the residence where a yard/garage sale is being conducted.

Does the City of Ft. Thomas have a copy of my property survey?

No.  The City does not maintain a copy of property surveys.

Can I park my R.V. or boat in my driveway?

Only for the purpose of loading and unloading and not for more than 24 hours.  Boats, R.V.’s, and trailers can only be stored in the rear yard of any premises.  At no time shall more than one of these vehicles or similar type equipment, be permitted in any rear yard area unless it is in a completely enclosed building.

Do I need an Occupational License to perform work in Ft. Thomas?

Yes.  Every business operating in Ft. Thomas is required to complete an occupational license application for Ft. Thomas and Campbell County.   The Campbell County Fiscal Court serves as the Occupational Tax collection agent for the City of Ft. Thomas.   Contact the Occupational License Office at 859-292-3884 for more information.

My electric is out.  When will my electric be restored?

Power outages are to be reported directly to Duke Energy at 1-800-544-6900.

There is a street light out.  Who should I notify?

All issues pertaining to street lights are to be reported directly to Duke Energy at 1-800-544-6900 or by logging on to Duke-Energy.com and clicking on “Customer Service”.

My water has been shut off or is discolored.  Who do I call?

Issues regarding your water service are to be reported directly to the Northern Kentucky Water District at 859-578-9898.

My sewer line is backing up.  Who do I call?

Sewer emergencies are to be reported to the Sanitation District No. 1 at 859-578-7450.

 There appears to be a water main break.  Who do I call?

Issues regarding water main breaks or unexplained water coming from the street are to be reported directly to the Northern Kentucky Water District at 859-578-9898.
